]]>Jeremy Allen, a NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist, AFTA certified personal trainer, and SPARQ certified trainer, is an up and coming guru in the fitness industry. With an extensive background in athletics, he takes an extremely dynamic approach to his fitness career. He has taken the values and principles that he utilized during his athletic career and has successfully applied them to training.

As an athlete and graduate of the University of Iowa, he was a fierce competitor in both football and track and field. During his tenure, he was All-Big Ten and All-American in both sports. He also held the University of Iowa School records in the shot put, 35 lb weight throw, vertical jump, squat, and 40 yard dash for a fullback. In 1998, he represented the United States in the World Junior Championships in France after being the U.S. Junior Champion in the discus. Year after year, Allen seemed to defy the norm with his rare combination of speed, power, explosiveness, and sheer determination. After a historic college career, Allen then went on to play in the NFL for two and a half seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and the Rhein Fire (NFL Europe).

As a fitness professional, Allen runs boot camps, speed camps, teaches adult and child fitness courses, and personal trains throughout the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. He has trained amateur and professional athletes in the sports of football, soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, field hockey, track and field, lacrosse, and ice hockey. Allen's dynamic training approach not only helped elevate these athlete's physical abilities to the next level, but also gave them the option to be mentored by someone who has been in there shoes.

What Allen does for his "general population" clientele is equally as methodical. He feels that people not only need structure, but motivation and accountability as well. According to Allen, he believes that training with a "teamwork" mindset will yield the best results. "Personal training is about working together to reach goals."

Allen believes that fitness is more than just a one hour a day, but a lifestyle. "Its something that you need to think about from the moment you wake up in the morning until the time you go back to sleep at night… it's your body, your mind, and your health…

Cathedral of Junk ATX

]]>The Cathedral of Junk was begun in 1989 by artist Vincent Hannemann. Hubcaps along the fence grew with donations until it formed the ultimate backyard fort. 32 feet high and weighing 80 tons, with multiple upper levels, visited by 10,000 Earthlings a year, featured in Spy Kids 3D, a Bank of America commercial, included in guidebooks, used for weddings, birthdays, plays and music. Plugged by the city in many ways, all seemed well. The Cathedral reached its zenith in March 2010 at which time Code Enforcement issued a notice of violation. It took 3 lawyers, 2 engineers, 1 architect, 100's of volunteers, and the removal of 40 tons of junk to get lega. The number of visitors is limited to 30 'carloads' per week. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Comes to the Rescue with Otherwise Unavailable Equipment

FRISCO, Texas – Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is awarding much needed equipment to Little Elm Box 620 Support Company at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011. Otherwise unavailable, the non-profit organization benefits with two automatic blood pressure monitors worth $5,512. With a 20 percent increase in emergency calls since 2009, the Little Elm Box 620 Support Company has been busy providing on-scene rehab and assistance to fire and police departments across 10 cities. This life-saving equipment will allow members of the organization to quickly begin monitoring first responder’s and victim’s blood pressure, pulse, respiration and blood sugar at the scene of the emergency. Since 2005, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $171,000 to public safety entities in Texas.
Firehouse Subs is renowned for hearty, oversized portions and piping hot subs. The founders’ 200-year firefighting heritage inspired the formation of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which provides funding and support to public safety entities.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to support the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protect ours,” said Jody Heeg, franchisee of the Frisco Firehouse Subs location. “The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation gives us the opportunity to show our appreciation in the best way possible, by giving back.”
Each restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets and sells them to customers for $2. Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit’s mission and collect spare change.
The presentation takes place at the Firehouse Subs located at 6025 Main Street in Frisco. Attendees to the event include local firefighters and their families, franchisees Steve and Jody Heeg, Area Representative Ryan Franklin and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation community programs manager Meghan Bender.
In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the mission to provide funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to aid first-responders. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs has given $2.6 million to hometown heroes, including fire and police departments and EMS organizations.
Firehouse Subs, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, is a 440-unit fast casual restaurant chain.
